Hey lovelies! Time check: Its 5:35am and im still awake at this unearthly hour! Soooo, good morning my dear readers! So basically, I didn't submit my report, which is due ytd 2359 hours. Since late submission is a deduction of 2 marks per day, doesnt really matter to me anyways! Still on the first day, soooooo, probably gonna submit only like at 9am later? LOL! Had so much drive from morning all the way till 11pm. The moment I know I couldnt submit on time, I just start to take my own sweet time to do. Meh.

A. Percentage Allocation
As mentioned above, the aim of the internship is to acquire as much technical skills and experience as possible, so that interns can get a rough guide on how the working life will be in future. However, based on guidelines set out by the school, majority of the percentage goes to report writing instead of company evaluation of the student.

As all three reports (i.e. periodic, interim and final) encompasses the learning experience in the company, it becomes challenging for interns to churn out reports with different working experiences and problems faced, especially for students having their internship in the accounting field as most of the work assigned are routine work (e.g. monthly cash management and accounts, where the procedures and work done are identical). As such, it is not a good gauge of how much a particular student has actually gained out of the internship program.

Although these reports encourage students to reflect back on the things being taught and learnt in the company, it becomes mentally challenging for students as a good command of language and vocabulary will determine the student’s performance and experiences gained in the company instead of evaluations by supervisors which are a much reliable and independent source of information. Comparing a student who has great command of language and vocabulary but is sloppy during internship, to another student who works diligently in the company but lacks language capability, it becomes unbalanced as the overall grade now tilts towards the performance on the reports instead.

Through these observations, a feasible recommendation will be to revise the allocation of percentage between the company’s evaluations and reports. This allows students to pay more attention to work done in the office, in turn facilitating students to comprehend the rationale behind every job assigned. Furthermore, it aids students to recall the things done in the company, acting as a guide not just for education purposes, but also for the working society.

Haha is quite bold of me to write that, but screw it. I honestly think reports are not a good gauge of our internship performance anyway. So there you go Ngee Ann Poly. Consider revising the percentage allocation, and probably alot of people like me will not bitch about reports as much!
